Prep and season
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F. Set up so the basket is ready for immediate cooking once the chicken is coated.
- Pound the chicken breasts to an even 3/4-inch thickness if needed for uniform cooking. Aim for consistent thickness so the center reaches 165°F without over-browning.
- Brush both sides of the chicken with olive oil. This helps the crust caramelize and cling to the meat.
- Mix together garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and cracked black pepper. Rub the seasoning evenly over both sides of the chicken so every surface is coated.
Air fry and finish
- Air fry the chicken for 16-18 minutes at 390°F, flipping halfway through. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the outside is golden-brown.
- Rest the chicken for 5 minutes before slicing. Let the juices settle while the crust stays crisp.
- Slice and garnish with fresh parsley and lemon wedges. Serve warm with the golden exterior and juicy interior visible at the cut.
Notes
For the juiciest results, keep chicken thickness close to 3/4-inch and don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 3 days; reheat in the air fryer at 350°F until warmed through. Freezing is not recommended for best texture. For a lower-sodium option, reduce the salt to 1/4 tsp and rely on the spices for flavor.
