Philly Cheese Steak Foil Packet Dinners

Philly cheesesteak foil packet dinners are an all-in-one grilled dinner with steak, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and melted provolone sealed in heavy-duty foil. The packets steam as they grill, so everything turns tender and the cheese melts right over the filling for a steaming-hot bite.

Ingredients

Steak filling
  • 1.5 lb sirloin steak Thinly sliced for quick grilling.
  • 2 bell peppers Slice into strips.
  • 1 onion Slice into rings or half-moons.
  • 2 cup mushrooms Slice so they grill evenly.
  • 8 provolone cheese Cut into slices.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 Salt and pepper to taste Season to your preference.
Serving (optional)
  • Hoagie rolls Serve hot, or skip for a low-carb style.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Assemble the foil packets
  1. Divide the thinly sliced sirloin steak, sliced bell peppers, sliced onion, and sliced mushrooms among 4 heavy-duty foil sheets.
  2. Drizzle each packet with olive oil and Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Season each packet with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Top each packet with 2 slices provolone cheese.
  5. Fold the foil into sealed packets, crimping the edges tightly to keep steam inside.
Grill and finish
  1. Grill the foil packets over medium heat for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway through cooking.
  2. Carefully open the packets and serve hot in hoagie rolls, or serve as-is.

Notes

Pro tip: Slice the steak thinly so it cooks through during the 18-20 minute grill time—cheese melting is best once the packets are steaming hot. Refrigerate leftovers in a sealed container for up to 3 days; reheat in a skillet until steaming. Freezing isn’t recommended because the provolone can change texture. Dietary swap: use a low-sodium Worcestershire sauce if you’re watching sodium.
